The Living Memory of Gordon B. Hinckley The 15th President of LDS Church

Aside from being the 15th president of LDS church, Gordon B. Hinckley was a remarkable writer and author too. He was the author of a national bestseller book called Standing for Something which was originally published in hardcover by Times Book in 2000 and by Three Rivers Press, New York, New York with International Serial Business Number (ISBN) 0-609-80725-0.

My own collection of the book Standing for Something
Gordon B. Hinckley was a churchman. He readily acknowledged that his perspective was a reflection of his upbringing, his training, the virtues and principles in which he believed and his personal observations. He was born in the United States on June 23, 1910 to loving and God-fearing parents in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was married to Ms. Marjorie Pay in 1937. He was ordained the world leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1995 and died in 2008 of old-age.

Yes. Gordon B. Hinckley really loved America. He died of old-age on his homeland at Salt Lake City, Utah, United States at the age of 97 on January 27, 2008 surrounded by his five children. He left the world with great achievements. Yes. He has gone and yet, still, he is living with his book Standing for Something, that I admired so greatly.

The contents of the book were written in two parts. The first part was about the Ten Neglected Virtues and part two was about The Guardian of Virtues as the author described them as Marriage and Family. Gordon said, “The health of any society, the happiness of its people, their prosperity and peace, all find their roots in the strength and stability of the family. And marriage requires nurture and time and very much effort.”

Anyone who reads the book will be inspired. According to Stephen R. Covey, the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People described the book Standing for Something as “Every chapter breathes profound wisdom, insight and optimism. It was articulated by one of the inspired leaders of our day – these ten timeless values, if lived, will literally heal our hearts, our homes, our country and our world."

While William J. Bennett, editor of The Book of Virtues said, “Standing for Something is an inspiring blueprint for what we all can do as individuals, as a nation and as a world community – to rediscover the values and virtues that have historically made us strong and that will lead us to a brighter future. Gordon B. Hinckley has created a classic look at the values that can change our world and how to stand up for them. Drawing on anecdotes from his much-admired life of faith and services, as well as examples from American cultures.”

On his book Standing for Something, Gordon B. Hinckley highlighted some of his remarkable experiences with people and the world. He said, “I love the peoples of the world. I love the sights and smells, the grand varieties of culture with their costumes, customs, and music; eyes dark and light, hair black and blonde and the incredible range of creativity in everything from architecture to food. I believe this world to be the creation of Jehovah and I delight at its diversity. But as much as I love the peoples and places of the world, I return from each trip abroad with a peculiar love for home land. I love America.”
