The Forerunner of Transparency and Good Governance: Chief Justice Renato Corona of Philippines
A few days before the verdict "GUILTY" was served to the Chief Justice Renato Corona of the Supreme Court of Philippines on May 29, 2012, CJ Corona submitted his "WAIVER" without any condition to the Senate Impeachment Trial Court. And his waiver was believed by his accusers as "trick". Now the said waiver has attracted to the million Filipinos inPhilippines and outside the country and is believed as a very useful requirement to check and to measure HIT (Honesty, Integrity and Trustworthiness) of any government officials and employees: President of Philippines, his Cabinets; Court Judges, Senators, Congressmen down to Governors and Mayors.
Former Chief Justice Renato Corona is history as the first magistrate of the Supreme Court ofPhilippines who was tried and impeached by the Senate Impeachment Trial Court for culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption. But million of Filipino people around the world believed that the coming 2013 Philippineelection has influenced the said verdict!
CJ Renato Corona was found GUILTY on the said impeachment trial that ended on May 29, 2012 with 20 as guilty votes versus 3 as not guilty for article 2 of Impeachment voted by the Senator-Judges. However, there’re million of Pilipino people around the world who watched the said Trial from day 1 to day 44 on their Television screens and on YouTube were not happy for the result.
According to The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines under Article III – Bill of Rights, Section 1 highlighted: No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws.

There were eight articles of impeachment submitted by the 188 members of the House of Representatives of the Philippines on December 12, 2011 against Supreme Court ChiefJustice Renato Corona. And on January 16, 2012, the Senate has started the Trial publicly that according to Chief defense counsel Serafin Cuevas Corona has been deprived of due process because there was no notice and hearing before the Chief Justice was impeached by the House.
However, in Day 25 of Impeachment Trial of CJ Corona, the 8 articles of impeachment manifested to the Senate Impeachment Trial Court by the prosecution panel were down to three: Article #2, #3 and #7. Article 2 pertains to culpable violation of the Constitution and articles 3 and 7 constitute the charge of betrayal of public trust. On May 29, 2012, the final verdict of CJ Corona was materialized and he was found guilty on Article 2 of Impeachment – leaving the two remaining articles of impeachment for decision: Articles 3 and 7.
