On November 4, 2012, I published an article at Triond about my wish to hitting the 5,724 impressions to complete my first 50,000 views on this site. It was published on WebUpon. Honestly, I positively thought that I could hit the Five Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty-Four views to get the next badge level which is Fifty Thousand. But I failed to hit my target until the last day of November 2012.
However, I considered my failure as a success. The said article has attracted traffic and views from online surfers and from my co-Triond writers. Out of 4,910 views my Triond pages have garnered for the month of November 2012 – there are about 425 views this article has contributed. It received at least seven comments from my Triond friends, one like and earned ten dollar cents so far.
For the record, this is the first time my Triond pages have received Four Thousand Nine Hundred Ten views for a single month. In addition, I am also grateful that the following referring sites namely: Webupon, Triond, Trifter, Google.com, Google.com.ph, Google.com.co.uk, Google.co.in, Socyberty, Twitter, Bing, Yahoo and Facebook have combined forces to bring tremendous traffic and views to my Triond pages. At present I still need 814 views to get the next badge level which is 50,000.
Number 814 has many meanings. It can be a US telephone area code as in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Number 814 has corresponding Roman numerals written as DCCCXIV - is a common year starting on Sunday of the Julian calendar. This number was also used for the Indian Airlines Flight 814 which was hijacked between December 24, 1999 to January 1, 2000 by Taliban militia. It was Hijacked between Kathmandu, Nepal, and Delhi, India. The aircraft has 178 passengers, 15 crews and recorded 17 injuries.
Some people also believed that number 814 is a lucky number, so I did not think twice. I bet this number on lottery and on jueting. I also believed on game of chance. In business language it is called speculative investments. They are about investment in assets, properties or businesses that may be illegal or at best and it is questionable. Or when a person is engaging in gambling activities like lottery and other gambling types. This type of investment usually has vague and incomplete information on how it can generate profit.
That’s all for now guys. I just hope that the start of December 2012, I could hit the remaining 814 views to complete my first 50,000 badge level.
On September 11, 2001, we saw it all live on TV. The people fled in panic from what they did not understand, people in hopelessness throwing themselves from the ruined Twin Towers collapsing. There was no way anyone who saw those things can ever forget them. The images were an inescapable and terrible part of our history. The tragedy killed thousands of innocent people. The signal tells us several things: the first is that the world must unite against terrorism. Second, there was no grievance, no injustice and no oppression, which can justify the murder of so many innocent people.
War is not nice. Nobody wins in war! Until now the Israel and Palestine are still fighting. Both are claiming the right to occupy the Holy Land. The war killed thousands of innocent people, damaged public and private properties. Palestine had become a graveyard for those tortured and killed. They were entombed under a field of rubble, crisscrossed with tanks and bulldozers. The Arabs in Palestine were blindfolded and cut by piece, shoot behind their back, blown up their heads. Israelis soldiers destroyed their houses, tear up their lands, killed their children, massacred their families, and called them terrorists, uncivilized and barbarians.
The boundless habit of graft and corruption of government officials causes to suffer the living condition of the people and the country. In 1986, millions of Filipino people led by Corazon Aquino gathered at EDSA to fight for peace, justice and democracy, and proved the strength of ‘people power” by driving Marcos into exile. Marcos was the president for twenty years of graft and corruption and a dictator. In 2001, another people power at EDSA forced another President Joseph Estrada to make his final bow. After allegations of bribery, graft and corruption as well as betrayal of public trust and violation of the constitution were leveled against him. The Filipino people have passed their verdict: Estrada was guilty and had to go.
After the gulf war in 1991, the allied forces left Iraq in great damage. The United Nation Security Council had sanctioned Iraq. There were no chemical and medicines have been sent to Iraq to save the hundreds of Iraqi children afflicted with cancer. Those innocent children were laying half-dead in the hospital beds, which was the result of the bombs and missiles attacked during the gulf war. The reason of the sanction of the United Nation Security Council was that, they suspected Iraq that they would use these chemical and medicines to produce chemical weapons of mass destruction.
In 2001, American forces and its ally have declared a war against Afghanistan where Osama Bin Laden was hiding. Bin Laden was the most wanted terrorist in the world, who was believed who plotted for the 9/11 tragedies in New York and Washington that killed thousands of innocent people. The people of the world mourned for these evil actions and demanded justice for the victims. The allied forces have crushed down hundreds of Taliban and crippled the Al-Qaeda Network from its major operations. The war ended with great damage and killed hundreds of innocent people.
But in March 2003, a war ensued in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was charged for programming chemical weapons of mass destruction. The country of Iraq was lost in darkness, fear and threats. The beat of war drums was getting louder and more aggressive. The whole world had witnessed it and saw how the two superpowers crushed down Iraq, which was bloodier than the Twin Towers themselves collapsing. The war ended with thousands of killed, blown their heads, cut their bodies to pieces, entombed under rubble houses and buildings and their blood scattered all over the lands.
Republic Act 8282 is all about the SSS mandate and the declaration of policy that says “It is the policy of the State to establish, develop, promote and perfect a sound and viable tax-exempt social security system suitable to the needs of the people throughout the Philippines which shall promote social justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old-age, death and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden. Towards this end, the State shall endeavor to extend social security protection to workers and their beneficiaries.”
The concept of social security evolved from an age-old search of man for protection against poverty which breeds grave social ills that not only threaten his survival but also erode his sense of human dignity. It, therefore, becomes the duty of the State to operate a mechanism that would provide such protection to its people.
On January 26, 1948, former President Manuel A. Roxas proposed a bill seeking to establish asocial security system for wage earners and low-salaried employees. This was recommended to Congress in his State of the Nation Address. After the death of President Roxas, former President Elpidio Quirino created the Social Security Study Commission on July 7, 1948. The creation of the commission was his first official act upon his assumption to office. Based on the report of the Study Commission, a draft of the Social Security Act was submitted to Congress.
In 1954, Representative Floro Crisologo, Senators Cipriano Primicias and Manuel Briones introduced bills based on the report of the Social Security Study Commission in the House of Representatives and in the Senate. These bills were consolidated and enacted into Republic Act (RA) 1161, better known as the Social Security Act of 1954.
The SSS aims to develop and promote a Viable, Universal and Equitable social securityprotection scheme through World-class service and to institutionalize a corporate culture that instills the core values of Trust, Empowerment and Teamwork.
Viable – means that social security protection shall be provided through generations.
Universal – means that social security protection shall be provided to all residents of the Philippines, citizens and non-citizens alike, regardless of creed, gender, age, geographic location and economic status, especially the disadvantaged, so that no one will become a burden to society.
Equitable – means fair and uniform coverage shall be made available to all. Benefits shall be meaningful and able to sustain a decent standard of living.
World-class Service – means the highest standard of social security service shall be provided to ensure total member satisfaction such as prompt, accurate and courteous.
However, the Social Security Act was objected by business and labor groups, resulting to a deferment of its implementation. In 1957, amendatory bills were presented in Congress. These bills were the bases of RA 1792, which amended the original Social Security Act. On September 1, 1957, the Social Security Act of 1954 or the Social Security Law (SS Law) was finally implemented, marking a significant milestone in the social security program.
With the implementation of the SS Law, the Philippine government also adopted the social insurance approach to social security, covering the employed segment of the labor force in the private sector.
In 1993, household helpers earning at least 1,000ph a month were included in the compulsory coverage of employees. In 1980, some groups of self-employed persons were also required to contribute to the social security fund from which benefits are paid upon the occurrence of a contingency provided by the law. Self-employed farmers and fisher-folks were included in the program in 1992 while workers in the informal sector earning at least 1,000ph a month, such as ambulant vendors and watch-your-car-boys were covered in 1995.
The Social Security System (SSS) administers social security protection to workers in the private sector. On the other hand, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) takes care of workers in the public sector. The SSS administers two programs, namely:

Social securityprovides replacement income for workers in times of death, disability, sickness, maternity and old-age. On May 1, 1997, former President Fidel V. Ramos signed Republic Act 8282, further strengthening the SSS. Also known as theSocial SecurityAct of 1997, it amended RA 1161, providing for better benefit packages, expansion of coverage, flexibility in investments, stiffer penalties for violators of the law, con-donation of penalties of delinquent employers and the establishment of a voluntary provident fund for members.
The employee’s compensation program, started in 1975, provides double compensation to the worker when the illness, death or accident occur during work-related activities. EC benefits are granted only to members with employers other than themselves.
Social Security System used to administer the Medicare program for hospitalization and other medical needs of the private sector workers; and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), for the public sectors workers. However, with the passage of RA 7875 or the National Health Insurance Act of 1995, SSS and GSIS transferred the administration of the Medicare program to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) for an integrated and comprehensive approach to health development.
