Your style is the manner in which you express your ideas. That is the words you use and the order in which you use them.
Your aim should always be for clarity. Your style should be an attractive and as easy to read as you can make it. When I say attractive, I mean that at least it should be attractive to you and sound good when you read it yourself. If you don’t like your style, then it is most unlikely that anybody else will either. But, remember this all your writing life, whatever style you develop it should be unique to you. Of course, you can learn a lot by studying the style of other writers. Even so, do not attempt to write exactly like them. It would only be, at the best, as second-rate imitation.
Your style must develop naturally from within yourself. Neither I nor anybody else can impose a style upon you and say it will suffice you for the rest of your writing life. It is unlikely that you will have a perfect, natural style from the start. It has to be worked at and honed until you produce attractive prose. It takes time to develop a style, too. Practice leads to a facility to write and, of course, the more you practice and write, the more confident and better you will become.
In eighteenth century Jonathan Swift, the famous novelist, commented on writing style as follows: Proper words in proper places make the true definition of a style.
Here the 5 C’s – correctness, conciseness, clarity, coherence and completeness should be considered and be applied in writing of non-fiction.
Correctness – your facts must be accurate and your use of the English language must also be correct.
Conciseness – this does not necessarily mean brevity. You can write a long article and still be concise. What it does mean is avoiding irrelevant facts, unnecessary words and long-winded explanations.
Clearness – avoid ambiguity. Make what you write clear to your reader by giving him all the necessary information and expressing it in a way he will be sure to understand.
The readers should not have to read a sentence or paragraph more than once in order to understand its meaning. If your meaning is obscure readers will not spend time puzzling over it. They will turn to something else which can be understood easily, that is if the work is even published in the first place.
Clarity in writing must be preceded by clarity of thought. If you are not sure what you hope to say you cannot expect to express your meaning in the correct words. The better you are at thinking, the more skilled you should be at writing. You should have a clear of what you want to say at the start, middle and end of an article or story when you sit down to begin it.
Coherence – this means presenting your ideas in an orderly, logical way so that your reader is able to follow your reasoning process.
Completeness – ensure that your reader has all the facts that are available without being burdened with what is unnecessary or trivial.
It was Nourah of Arab Newspaper, the first person, a woman who
encouraged me to pursue my blog and blogging hobby online. It was her also who
pushed me to pursue my plan to study Journalism and Short Story writing courses
with the Writers Bureau in Manchester, London in 1999-2000 by mail and with the
ICS - International Correspondence School in Pennsylvania, USA in 2000-2001
also by mail during those years, I was working with Kawasaki Helicopter (S.A.)
Limited as an account analyst - owned by Sheik Abed-Leilah Kaki of Jeddah,
Saudi Arabia for the period from March 23, 1994 to April 30, 2012.
On January 31, 1999, I wrote a letter and sent it off to the editor-in-chief of Arab Newspaper - Mr. Khaled A. Al-Maeena for Nourah Alkhereiji whom I mistakenly addressed as Big Mister.
My letter reads, "Hundreds of thousands of OFWs have loved, saluted and commended Nourah for his dedication to write such exposes, to edify readers to know behind the perception, disregarding any race". That was sixteen years ago, a draft of my letter to the editor is still available on my notebook.
I thought Nourah was a young guy. His daring expose re "Mutawwas give self a new role" as they loved to impose the law - mandated in the prevention of vices and promoting virtues in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Arab Newspaper published the said article written by Nourah on January 30, 1999.
Gaiety filled my heart when unexpectedly, I received letter from Mr. Tarik Alkhereiji - the brother of Nourah after a week that Mr. Al-Maeena, the editor-in-chief of Arab Newspaper forwarded my letter to Nourah. His letter mentioned that his sister wanted to thank me for my encouraging letter and she wanted to point out too - that mistake I had in referring Nourah as big Mister.
Immediately, I replied his letter. I explained to him what caused my mistake. And then I received again another letter from him telling me that I already got his sister's apology. Believe it or not - that mistake I made addressing Nourah as big Mister has pushed me to write more and more.
With the help of Internet, I started to look for an online group on the Net with the same interests, loves and likes. Until in 2000, I started to create my personal blog at Blogger.com and had purchased my own domain website from the money I earned from my online blog and blogging hobby. Now they are open for public visits, comments and suggestions.
Of course, love is my other reason why I would write. Like Nourah Alkhereiji - who always loves to write for anything that interests her even though English language is not her language according to his brother Tarik - mostly of her writings were written in her Arabic language. Nourah is daring and competent writer that Arab Newspaper must be proud of her. Wish she can read this piece. My simple ways to say "Thank You".
Like Nourah, I could write too because I have the love in my heart. I have the dream to become a writer too, someday. Because of love, my interest to write for anything and everything I mostly liked and loved is growing every day. Besides, there is money from writing!
CashMyStudio is a newly launched publishing site accepting your awesome original contents. The site has many features, namely: current studio status, video, blog, photos, your ads section, forum and marketplace and there are more features to come.
When did I find CashMyStudio?
It was on October 15, 2012, I received a short alert from the webmaster of the site – who is also the Admin and the Creator, he asked me if I would become interested to join a new launched site that allows its members to earn money from ads program mainly from Chitika and Google AdSense. His message attracted me to open the link going to CashMyStudio site. It took me at least 30 minutes to browsing down all the features available on that site. That thirty minutes with the site impressed me and I decided to join.
On the same date, I replied, “I checked out the site and it is cool. When did you create the site? I noticed it that the site has no contents yet. I have read the terms of use including the site policy – you focused on original contents – what do you mean original contents? what I know – (1) original contents are those contents written by a certain author and not copied from any-one’s work (2) original contents are those contents written by a certain author that are already published somewhere else and yet still the author can still publish them on other sites with an assurance that he is really the author. Now what I have observed many publishing sites are accepting contents that are originally written by a certain author even though they are already published somewhere else. I liked that site. I might have the interest to venture with your site.”
On October 16, 2012, I received the creator’s answer said “This site just launched on October 15, 2012. Thus we have no users and content yet. We’re planning to get up there quickly. The site has alot of features. You can advertise across your content with text ads or allow others to advertise across your content and you earn “Studio Credits” and it’s alot more fun than any other writing sites because of the upcoming features and current features. Yes, original content means content that you OWN. We don’t recommend it being published on other sites but you can (SEO reasons). As long as you own the content it’s fine. Thank you, please sign up, spread the word, and tell me what you think!”
On November 3, 2012, I finally joined with CashMyStudio. I uploaded my first three items for blog, photo and video sections. And then I alerted Admin “Dude I already joined your site – in an hour I ably garnered 69 views for my three uploaded items. However, I noticed that forum and market sections are still empty. I am planning to write a short review about the site.”
On November 5, 2012, the Admin replied, “Thank you, the forum and marketplace are on there way. Send me a message when you write the review.”
From its launching date, the site has now almost forty members enjoying now with the site. As of this writing, there are about 69 original blog articles uploaded on the site, seven video so far and 32 awesome photos. My pages have already garnered 283 views. I already earned 160 studio points and 100 studio credits – and I am planning to use them for my stuff advertising.
On this site, members can upload blog article from 350 words and above. The editorial section is awesome. For blog title, it is designed for 80 characters only and for the descriptions or summary at least one to two sentences or 250 characters maximum length. Tags are from 3 to 10 and the up-loader can create his own desired URL links for his entries as the same for video and photo.
A basic studio member will receive 60% share of views impression but if he upgraded his studio to premium he will enjoy 100% of views impression. Because earnings are from Google AdSense and Chitika, it is assumed that members will receive their earnings through their accounts on Google AdSense and Chitika.
The site is accepting all kinds of writers who have the interest to venture with CashMyStudio. The earnings are from ads program – so for those interested parties you may prepare your Google AdSense Pub-ID and your Chitika Username – they are the two important requirements. The site is equipped with share buttons to market the stuff outside CashMyStudio.
There are two main sources of income at ExpertsColumn. One is earnings from views and earnings from referrals. If you're writing now with the site and you have so many friends and followers across the Internet - views from them would flush in to every column you published on this site. And every thousand views that your column generates, you will get paid up to 1.50$. And for those who are not yet writing for this site - you may book mark this column for your future use.
Because earning from views is the first source of your income at ExpertsColumn - if you can -make friend with other columnists, visit their column pages and if possible leave some comments on their published columns. In return they will visit your pages too. Because the more views your columns received, the bigger the income you will get. And it is already proven by those columnists who have been here quite for some years.
However, you must adhere also the site policy and advise before you publish your column on their site. Your reader is the first reason why you should write a column. You should write it what your heart dictates. And follow other suggestions.
Now if you referred many friends to write for this site - you will earn 10% of the revenue earned by them. So, the more people you referred to write for ExpertsColumn, the bigger the revenue you will earn from them. But you should also help them to expose their published columns across the Internet through social networks, book marking sites and sharing them on your blog sites.
In addition, the site is also giving gift rewards or monetary rewards to its columnists through contests. But till now said contests are not yet available. Just wait and see - this is the thirdsource of your income if materialized.
At Triond I found another interesting way how to market hundreds of my published articles across the net. Through a worksheet where all the information of the articles I have published at Triond are put together as an article page. This column is an example as it holds hundreds of articles to market across the internet. If people have spotted it and attracted to crawl down the page - traffic and views would be flushing in. The mechanic is simple, the main key is my Triond profile page. My profile page has a section that caters all the indexed tags or labels I had used for my articles called tag cloud.
Out of three hundred ninety one (391) articles I have published on that site excluding this one - there are about twenty tags officially indexed and found on my Triond profile page under the tag cloud section. These twenty tags representing the 391 articles published on the different publishing sites powered by Triond.
The twenty labels could possibly be visited and read by surfers and other crawlers - if attracted to crawl down on them. And what is good here is that - these tags or labels are considered as search-able keywords by search engines, other crawlers and spiders across the net.
Out of the 391 published articles - 288 of them are articles tagged under my user name pruelpo. The other 103 content articles I published are labelled under Business, Education, Facebook, Get more, Google, How to, Life, Online writing, Paid to write, People, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Society, Triond, Web marketing, What are, What is, Writing and Writing tips.
Surfers who would likely or accidentally visit my Triond profile page and would crawl down the 20 tags found under my tag cloud section - would also visit and read other articles written by other Trionders. The reason is that - hundreds of Triond writers have also used the same tags or labels I have used for the 103 articles I published on Triond. So, if I marketed this article through social networks, bookmarking sites and to my blog sites - chances of traffic and views would also flush in to other Triond profile pages.
The said three hundred ninety one content articles are officially published on twenty publishing sites powered by Triond namely: AlThingForCars, AuthoSpot, BeyondJane, Bizcovering, Bookstove, Cinemaroll, Computersight, Gomestic, HealthMad, Newsflavor, Musicouch, Notecook, PurpleSlinky, Quazen, Relijournal, Scienceray, Socyberty, Trifter, Webupon and Writinghood.
This way of advertising of my published articles outside Triond is legal and no spamming. And aworksheet is enough to market my published articles across the Internet. And to use my user name as one of the tags or labels for my articles is effective - if some one will search my username on search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing - he or she will be redirected to those published articles and other stuff I published on the different publishing sites across the net. Not only that my username can help too to detect who is plagiarizing my works. And whoever visit and crawl down the found on my Triond profile page - he will be redirected to all published articles written by me and other hundred Triond writers who have also used the same tags I used.
There are at least approximately 100,000 magazines and newspapers published world-wide in the English language (not included yet the online publishing sites that accept contributions from writers from around the world). Most of these purchase articles and stories fromfreelance writers. The major English language markets are in the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. But in addition there are at least another 40 countries that have some publications in English.
Writing is one of the most rewarding occupations or pastimes. It is an activity for which there is an enormous demand. Editors and publishers are always on the lookout for new writers and fresh ideas. Consequently, in the next few months alone, very good incomes will be earned in fees and royalties by freelance writers and you could easily be one of them.
If you can also write to an acceptable standard in another language, then even moreopportunities are open to you. Next there are thousands of fiction and non-fiction books published each year, as well as scripts for radio, TV, video and stage plays. Thus as you can see, there really are many potential outlets for your writing.
The more you write, the better you will become
Once you have learned how to write for these markets, then you should have no difficulty in selling your work. This applies just as much to the part-timer, writing for fun and recreation, as it does to the full-time professional. This is not difficult, for writing is a skill which, like all the other artistic skills, you can learn and develop with practice.
Actually you do not need any special educational qualifications or background knowledge to become a writer. Nor does it matter where you live. Successful writers come from all walks of life and from all round the world. Housewives, teachers, civil servants, businessmen, senior citizens (for there is no age limit) and even teenagers are just a few of the people who have become published writers.
Fame and fortunes are waiting
Once you have developed your writing skills, you have exactly the same opportunities for fame and fortune as anyone else. How will you do and how far you go will depend solely on your own application and creative talent. In other words, it is entirely up to yourself. If other people have made it, then surely with a little effort, you can make it also.
One of the biggest problems all new writers face, is where and how to sell their writing. Don't let this worry you, for as I have already said, there is a huge potential market waiting for you. If your plan is to sell your writing on print media, there is America, Britain, Canada, Australia, Africa, the Pacific Rim and throughout Europe and the Middle East.
In addition to them, there are thousands online publishing sites across the Internet, who are thirsty and hungry - looking for fresh ideas from contributors from round the world like Hubpages.com, Triond, Wikinut, Helium, Bukisa, ExpertsColumn. As part of your practice, you can start writing your awesome original articles and other pieces through a blog site you owned or sharing them with other blog sites owners or directly to publishing sites.
You need enthusiasm and perseverance
In addition to your creative talent, you also need enthusiasm and perseverance. But you do not need to be either particularly gifted or very clever. There are many otherwise ordinary people, from ordinary backgrounds who, with diligence and perseverance, have had a lot of fun, enjoyment and extra money from their writing.
If you do not possess these personal qualities of enthusiasm to write and perseverance, then neither I nor anybody else can help you. But if, on the other hand, you have these personal qualities then you will find that honest endeavor will bring you its own rewards, as any successful writer will tell you.
You need creative talent and imagination
In addition to your perseverance you need also, of course, some creative talent and imagination. Many people have much more creativity in them than they realize, but they are often unaware of it. How to judge if you have some writing potential?
Here are a few pointers to help you:
A love word of words and literature is a good start, for these are the writers stock-in-trade.
A strong desire to put your thoughts and ideas on paper is a very good sign. This will give you the necessary motivation to keep on writing.
Another guide is to study the work of other writers. When you read a book, a story or an article and think, 'I could write as well as that', your creative imagination is starting to work. Try to improve the work you have just read and your imagination is working even more - proving you have an active one.
But the best test of all is to try writing yourself about anything that interests you.
I recognized him with his black and white cat-foot. I saw its large, distinctive black patches around the eyes, over the ears and across its round body. I thought if he saw me he would become wild but I was wrong. When he saw me he smiled at me and invited me to sit down beside him. What a beautiful morning it was!
I also found that Google Panda occasionally eat other grasses, wild tubers, or even meat in the form of birds, rodents or carrion, honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, or bananas along with specially prepared feed aside from bamboo. For him they are all unique and healthy foods and drinks - reasons why Google Panda is always crawling around and spotting unique and quality contents round the clock.
So I did not waste my time. I started our conversation with laughter and normal greetings. And then my short interview for him followed. For all the questions I asked, he answered them directly to the point. He was smart, friendly and it made me comfortable. And for the record, the below is the recorded interview I made with Google Panda.
Purpose of Google Panda
Pruelpo: For what purpose Google has recruited you early last year?
Google Panda: The purpose is mainly to give better search results. The change aims to lower the rank of low quality content sites in search results and return high-quality sites to its users.
Affected Websites
Pruelpo: Did it show good results? What websites mostly were affected?
Google Panda: Yes. It has affected the rankings of all search results. News websites and Social Networking sites benefited for this changes – their rankings rise but a drop in rankings for Advertising sites.
Aspire to High Quality Contents
Pruelpo: You mentioned earlier about low quality content sites – What advice you can suggest to the owners or to the publishers of those sites?
Google Panda: To get high ranking pages on search results those publishers should aspire to conceive those low quality contents to high quality contents for their sites. If those publishers are hosting individual content writers – they should encourage them to produce articles with unique and good quality contents. Now Google has started spotting, tracking and indexing acknowledgment of contents created by the individual content creators with the websites they appear on through listing the author’s link.
Online Writing is Different From Writing on Print Media
Pruelpo: What advice you can suggest to the individual content creators to produce articles with good quality contents?
Google Panda: For the benefits of all writers, first of all, they should realize that online writing is different from writing on print media like newspapers and magazines. If writers wrote articles for online publication with good quality contents the Search Engine crawlers will always love to crawl down those articles and will keep them coming back a year round because they found them as quality provider of good contents.
Need a Lot of Good Quality Contents
Pruelpo: I see your points though still I need more clarifications. Could you please elaborate them?
Google Panda: Writers should avoid publishing anything that is not quality or original content. They should avoid mixing some lower quality stuff with that high quality stuff just to get number of articles to publish. Injecting non-unique contents on their articles could not attract Search Engine crawlers. They need a lot of good quality contents and need to post them frequently. Frequency is also important part of the process because it helps train crawlers to come to find the healthy food to bite. Search Engines will be happy to see that writers are consistently feeding good quality contents for the crawlers.
Avoid Not to Keyword Stuff of Contents
Pruelpo: They sound good and very effective. Are there some more helpful tips that you can advice to writers other than those you mentioned a while ago?
Google Panda: Writers should write naturally with good English grammar. And they should avoid not to keyword stuff of their contents. If they write articles of 500, 1000 and above words long – they should pick a main keyword and put it in the title of the post. They should select a bunch of sub-phrase keywords that relate the primary keyword and use them on sub-headings and fill them in about 100 to 200 per sub-section. Or for every 100 words they write they should use the keyword only once. For a five hundred word article they would use keyword at least five times. However, they can also mix two or three other keywords into the article with the primary keyword. They can also use the primary keyword once in the closing paragraph of the article. And also they can create links in the content to other pages.
Not Yet Too Late for Us
The interview with Google Panda was interesting, memorable and exciting one. Now I realize that it is not yet too late for us writers to write unique with good quality content articles. Following Google Panda’s advice we can improve our writing capabilities and avoid his robust dropkicks!
No Full-time Freelance Writer Can Hope to Make a Living From Writing Unless He Has a Steady Output. He cannot afford to be like the poet who, when asked what he had done that day, replied: Well, during the morning I put a comma in and during the afternoon I took it out again. The dedicated writer should be continually writing or planning his writing. When he is not on holiday, or even when he is, he should be producing words, either on paper or in his head. The late Neil Bell, a brilliantly inventive novelist and short story writer, said: When you have completed a piece of work and sent it away to a publisher don't waste time in speculating what may happen to it. Sit down and begin writing something else. A writer can never write too much.
One of the most prolific writers was the late John Creasy who founded, with some friends, the British Crime Writers' Association. Creasy admitted that before he sold his first story he collected 740 rejection slips. Undeterred, he went on to become one of the world's best known and admired writers of mystery novels.
When he died in 1973 Creasy had - had 560 books published in eighty countries. It was a remarkable achievement for a man who had to leave grammar school at the age of 14 (he was the seventh son of a family of nine) because his father was ill and his parents needed the money he could earn as an office boy in London.
Other past and fast writers have included: Georges Simenon, creator of Inspector Maigret; Alexander Dumas, who once wrote a full-length romance in 36 hours; Edgar Wallace who, using dictaphones and a fast stenographer, dictated his thrillers at 3,500 words an hour. Even more incredible was Samuel Johnson, the 18th century lexicographer and writer who, short of money when his mother died, sat down and wrote a novel Rasselas in the evenings of one week to pay for her funeral and her debts!
Amazing as these cases are - and most writers would like to emulate them - writers usually settle down to their own rhythm and a speed at which they can steadily write. Setting a target too high and trying to reach it daily could lead to poor creativity and a low standard of written English caused by the desperate attempt to reach the target. Set yourself a target within your capabilities, which you know you can comfortably reach without any of this happening. You will then feel happy with your writing output at the end of the day and what you have created will be of saleable standard.
If you want to write and earn you may join to the following publishing sites. They are best publishing sites for your online writing like:
About the Author – My favorite Saying: “Dream Big and don’t stop without giving it a chance to come true.” I am a father of 3 for 25 years, OFW for 17 years , a Blogger, sometimes a Poet, Self-motivated and Professional by experience. You can call me Paul or Pruel. I am friendly animal but can kick you off when it is needed. LOL. I have no specific areas where my writing will focus on. I write any subject that interests me under the merciless sun.
Words have a power all their own (Photo credit: waɪ.tiː)
To write article or story is not easy task but it is within everyone’s grasp – if you know the right techniques. It is a mechanical process that everyone can master if you use the right ingredients. In my experience as a blogger, I found some interesting things needed to improve with my blogging hobby. The following are some of the interesting points that value an article and I would like to share them here.
Title Of The Article
The title of the article should be an attention grabbing or a descriptive one. Also it can be in a form of a question. Ten words for a title are acceptable but if you can shorten it, the better.
Introduction of The Article
The introduction of the article should reveal the most interesting and most highlighted points about the article’s contents.
What Attract More Readership?
Images, photos and videos included in the article can help attract more visitors and readers. They are available in the internet though it is better if you owned them.
Some of us write their blog articles without considering the importance of tags. Tag is a word or group of words that suggests about the contents and substance of the article and when a surfer hit that word during his search it will lead him to a particular article. Some writers use the titles of their articles as tags.
I learned that not just any back link will do. Only those from sites with relevant topics or subjects get counted. So if you wanted to apply back links on your article sharing - if you can avoid do not use click here use text words.
Nobody Is Perfect
Article should not contain a bunch of wrong spellings, punctuations and grammar errors though we sometimes overlooked of them. Of course, nobody is perfect here. However, we can avoid them.
Inject Honesty And love
Lying here is a sin and a crime. So before writing your article, you would have to gather information that will support your article and investigate them before hand for their validity.
If your article is long write it by parts. The best length of an article that people read mostly during surfing the net ranges from 200, 300 to 500 words or a 5 minutes slot.
Of course, no-one will kick you off if you used run-on sentences when writing article. However, it is better to avoid them. Short sentences in your article are more readable and understandable.

At this moment I am preparing and reconditioning myself for my vacation which is due on May 1, 2012. During the month of January 2012, my target articles to write were actually 31 but I failed. Of course, I am still happy because these twenty articles are still attracting crawlers for traffic and views – they are:
Even if I am away, if someone visited my Wikinut pages, he/she will be redirected to some of my previous published articles. And as I always said, there are many ways to expose those old published articles across the Internet which are legal and no spamming. Also often use your Blog sites to promote your articles published at Wikinut and from other publishing sites.
