Things Needed to Stimulate Infants and Toddlers

During the first three years of life, children experience the world in a more complete way than children of any other age. The brain takes in the external world through its system of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. This means that infant social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development are stimulated during multi-sensory experiences. Infants and toddlers need the opportunity to participate in a world filled with stimulating sights, sounds and people.

I just thought that parents and caregivers out there would agree that caring for infants and toddlers is mostly about building relationships and making the most of everyday routines and experiences. The Creative Curriculum for infants and Toddlers authored by Dombro, Colker and Dodge, 1997 says that during the first three years of life, infants and toddlers look to caregivers for answers to these questions:
  • What things interest me?
  • Is it safe for me to show how I feel?
  • What should I be afraid of?
  • Do people enjoy being with me?
  • How should I behave?
  • Am I competent?
  • Am I important to others?
  • Can I depend on other people when I need them?
  • Do people respond to me?
It was proven long ago, through some scientific studies that infants and toddlers learn about themselves and their world during interactions with others. And it was found also that brain connections that lead to later success grow out nurturant, supportive and predictable care – enhancing a child curiosity, creativity and self-confidence. Young children need safety, love, conversation and a stimulating environment to develop and keep important synapses – structures that permit neurons to pass an electrical or chemical signals to other cells in the brain.
The first three years of life, children stimulate and show their reactions when they’re exposed to the following multi-sensory environment:
  • Scents like peppermint and cinnamon keep children alert.
  • Lavender calm them down.
  • The sounds of thunder and lightning affect children alertness and responsiveness.
  • Bright lights keep infants and toddlers alert.
  • Soft lights help infants and toddlers to calm down.
  • Colors like pale yellow, beige and off-white help create a calm learning environment.
  • Bright colors such as red, orange, and yellow encourage creativity and excitement.
  • Quiet and soft music help calm infants and toddlers.
  • Rhythmic music get them excited about moving.
  • A texture book or board that includes swatches of different fabrics help infants andtoddlers enhance their sense of feel.
Words that describe the foods and drinks served to infants and toddlers also help them understand what flavor and texture they’re made of like:
  • Oranges are sweet and juicy.
  • Lemon yogurt is a little sour and creamy.

Depressed Teenagers: The Bad Effect of Pushing

Depression would diminish our children the ability to think actively and weakens their appetite for food; they would become not active in school and their studies; they would cheat during examinations to get high grades because if they failed their parents would punish them.
In our children cheating is also distinct. In school students cheat to get high grades during examinations. Cheating here cannot be stopped but we can help to reduce it and it should start at home. When they grow up they would become responsible, honest and God-fearing citizen.
Pushing also drive children to mingle bad company of friends, who are also experiencing the same problems. Parents should know that bad company corrupts good character of a child and the worse thing is that, this company of friends would encourage these children to engage them to use prohibited drugs. With these drugs they could find peace and temporary relief and forget their studies. Eventually these children would become drug addicts and would commit crimes in the future against society such as to cheat.
However, children should understand that parents want only the best for them and that is why they push them to excel in academic performance. Pushing should not distract them. In case they feel depressed, they should treat that feeling positively. They should realize that depression is normal feeling. The trick is to learn to manage it.
Teachers in school should treat their students like their own children. They should be patient to teach their students’ lessons with dedications and commitments. They should tell their students about the bad effects of cheating in their lives.
But what is of more importance is communication between parents and children. Parents should always communicate with their children as often as possible. Often communication can relieve their children’s emotional distress. Parents should find time to discuss with them all matters and to hear their side. Parents should understand that teenage is a delicate time in a child’s life. Children need guidance, understanding, compassion and love.

It is Really Hard to Make Myself Available for My Kids But I did it...

I quote here what John Gottman, author of The Heart of Parenting says, "Men must allow themselves to be aware of their feelings so they can empathize with their children. Then they must take whatever steps necessary to make themselves available to their kids." In my case I am thousand miles away from my children - it is really hard to make myself available for them. However, I did it...

Twenty-five years ago, I got married. During those years, we're blessed with three lovely children. Now they are young ladies. Our eldest is 22 year old. Our second daughter is 20 year old and our youngest is 19 year old - who is now on her 4th year accountancy.

During their early age - from their elementary, high school life and college days, my support is always there - not only for financial support but also to assist them with their school projects and other assignments. In spite, I am thousand miles away from them, if they needed my help for their school assignments - I am always available through Internet and mobile phones - one of the many reasons why I created my blog sites.

Year 2010, my 2nd daughter graduated from Computer Science Course.

Three months before her graduation, her English teacher gave her an assignment to write a short speech for Vice President Candidate plus another two questions that a Vice President Candidate should answer if his countrymen would ask him/her during his/her speech. That would be her projectand if she failed to submit she could not graduate according to her teacher.

After she received her assignments, she sent them to me immediately through email said, "Papa I need your help. Please write a short speech for vice president candidate. Also include these two questions: What kind of advocacy you want to proclaim to prevent the poverty in this country? and How would you balance federal foundation for transportation and road construction?"

Reading those questions was really a headache - I am not the one to graduate...but I cannot said no to my daughter. I have no choice but to comply her request. So, I started surfing the Internet, encyclopedias and other reading materials for information about the topics.

A short speech of a vice president candidate:

Thank you so much for the trust that you have trusted to me. Thank you for this opportunity to work with you as we raise the truthful reform. Thank you for the privilege that you have entrusted me of joining in the fight for a clean, honesty, integrity and trustworthy in public service, and for a government that puts first the people’s interest.

From the bottom of my heart, I accepted the challenge to achieve the true reform of good governance of this country. But this fight is not just about me. It is about our collective thirst and hungry for change.

My friends, this is going to be a tough battle. My opponents will use all forces in order to win. They have been there for so long and continuing robbing us. Now with your help, we should stop them. Let's stay hand in hand in this field of battle.

What kind of advocacy you want to proclaim to prevent the poverty in this country?

My Advocacy: The Filipinos should adapt the correct attitude.

Executives from rich countries who communicate with their counterparts in poor countries show that there is no significant intellectual difference. Race or skin colors are also not important: immigrants labeled lazy in their countries of origin are the productive power in rich European countries.

What is the difference then? The difference is the attitude of the people, framed along the years by the education and the culture and flawed tradition. The behaviors of the people in rich and developed countries are greatly followed the following principles in their lives such as:

(1) Ethics, as a basic principle.
(2) Integrity.
(3) Responsibility.
(4) Respect for the laws & rules.
(5) Respect for the rights of other citizens.
(6) Work loving.
(7) Strive for savings & investment.
(8) Will of super action.
(9) Punctuality.
(10) And of course...Discipline

Philippines is not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was cruel to us. In fact, we are supposedly rich in natural resources. We are poor because we lack the correct attitude. We lack the will to comply with and teach these functional principles of rich and developed societies.

We are the most abusive to the environment - Illegal Logging, dynamite and cyanide fishing, hunting and poaching of birds and wildlife. We throw garbage everywhere.

How would you balance federal foundation for transportation and road construction?

I believed that building roads in rural areas promotes development through improved access to markets; health and educational facilities; the generation of alternative income sources; and better information flows.

My assumption being that the supply of transport services, such as freight and passenger movement, would naturally follow new road construction.

In the Philippines with a tradition of building roads with Portland cement concrete, here is now a considerable network of ageing roads needing rehabilitation. The traditional method of treating these roads is to neglect them until the ride becomes severely impaired and then to break out the old concrete and replace them with new.

I would request the Philippine Department of Highways to improve this situation by addressing the problem of concrete quality, using indigenous materials, and investigating alternative methods of rehabilitation.

But what is of more vitally important – I would coordinate directly to the national budget commission and request them to see to it that before releasing the funds for this project, there should be complete planning and specifications of materials and all the supposedly incurred expenses should have a corresponding transparency of expenses records available for the public.

My hard works were compensated to receive my daughter's reply

It took me three days to finish the project for my daughter. After I done it, immediately I sent it off to my daughter. And in two days, I received her reply said, "I love you papa. It was approved. Now I will graduate. Thank you so much. Muaaaaaaaa...!" My hard works were compensated to receive my daughter's reply.
