The Propecy: Super Typhoon Haiyan

Last April 2013 during the 24th National Prayer Gathering in Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City, Philippines – one of the speakers has prophesied that there will be a mighty typhoon to rise up against Philippine islands and there will be great disaster through floods. On November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) has devastated the islands of Samar, Leyte, Cebu and other neighboring islands. Yolanda has become the world talk that swept out those places and killed thousands of people.

Sinasabi sa matandang kasulatan, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven.”

Kudos to all reporters of GMA7 and ABS-CBN Philippines, other Television and Radio networks (both Local and International), the Aquino Administration, other countries of the globe, newspaper publications (both in print and online), online social networks, NGOs, other million individual from around the world for their help, prayers, supports and encouragements extended to all the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

The Beautiful Filipino Language

Our history tells that before the invaders invaded our lands and have deprived the rights of Filipinos, our Filipino language was lively weeping in every Filipino heart. In Filipino language, our loving forefathers shouted for unity and their cries led to a bloody revolt and fighting the aliens.

The Endless Beauty of Filipino Language
The beauty of the Filipino language can be compared to sweet pure blood and water flowing into each opening of the lips. It is alive and singing in every Filipino heart. And it lives in every success of every Filipino wherever they are. But the true beauty of it - is when it is spoken, used for writing including the twist of body language.

With their sweat, blood and lives, the Filipino language lived. Streams and meadows were stained with their blood. The lament of unity gave them strength and eventually lived and further intensify the struggle. The result was our desired independence flourished and lived until now.

In every breath of a Filipino, the sweetness and beauty of his Language is always alive. When Juan De La Cruz was dying in the midst of his weakness and suffering - his lamentation, mourning and woe was spoken in the sweetest Filipino language.

In Mindanao, the cry of sufferings and fears of our brother Muslims and Christians rang in different parts of the world. Their fears and concerns have arisen. Some have died seeking to end this mess. But until now the conflict is still there forth.

According to the history of the Filipino Alphabet, I quote "In the 16th century, the people of the islands used a writing script called Baybayin or Alibata. It was the Spaniards who introduces Western letters to the Philippines. In 1930s, the renowned scholar Lope K. Santos developed the ABAKADA which is an alphabet representing the sounds in the Tag-alog language. It consists of twenty letters (five vowels and fifteen consonants)."

Jose Rizal said, "He who does not love his own language surpassed the slimy and smelly fish." Mabuhay ang Filipino!

My Triond Pages Get Wide Global Views

This is my tribute for the following countries – who have contributed views and traffic to my Triond pages for the past 30 days. And to return their favors, this column will feature some trivia about them – this is my way to say thank you for the readers and other surfers from those regions.

Out of 100% traffic and views my Triond pages received for the past 30 days, 52% came from the United States. Many people around the world considered America as the land of milk and honey. It is the land of many left-handed presidents. It is headed by the newly elected US President Barack Obama. He is the 44th president of the United States of America that started on January 20, 2009 and again by December 17, 2012, he will be officially take oath as the 45th president of the United States after winning the US November 2012 presidential election. He is the pride of both African – American people.

My Triond pages also received 20% traffic and views from the Philippines – my home country. The present president of the Philippines is President Benigno S. Aquino III. He is the 14th president and the son of the former Philippine President Corazon C. Aquino. The Philippineswas controlled by Spain for about 333 years. So it is not amusing to see Filipinos around the world practicing the traditions and cultures of Spain. As our history tells – before Christianity has spread in Philippines – Islam was already active in some part of Mindanaw island. It is 141 years older than Christianity.

Turkey has brought 7% of traffic and views to my Triond pages. The country’s motto: Peace at Home, Peace in the World. Turkey is a Muslim country but not all of the population are Muslims. The country’s official language is Turkish spoken by 85% of the population. The government of Turkey is Parliamentary Republic – it was founded by Mustafa Kermal Ataturk. 70% to 75% of population are Turks, 18% are Kurds and 7% to 12% of population are categorized under others. The country’s president is Abdullah Gul. Turkey’s geographic location is at intersections of Europe and Asia.

The United Kingdom has brought 6% of traffic and views to my Triond pages. Great Britain (GB) is a geographical area consisting of England, Scotland and Wales. To refer to the nationality of the people of Britain or the United Kingdom one has to use the adjective British. English describes people from England and should not be used to describe people from Ireland, Scotland or Wales. One should use Irish to describe people from Ireland, Scottish for the people of Scotland and Welsh for the people of Wales. The present queen is Queen Elizabeth II. Its capital is London.

Canada has brought 5% of traffic and views to my Triond pages for the past 30 days. Canada’s motto: From sea to sea. Canada is a North American country – the second world’s largest country in terms of total area of 3,854,085 sq mi. Its official languages are English and French. Its capital is Ottawa. Canada is a federal state governed as a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. The country’s population is approximately 33.4 million as of 2011.

India has brought four percent of traffic and views to my Triond pages. India has so many interesting, beautiful and historical places to offer to its people and travellers from around the world. India is the second largest country in terms of its population. But the 7th-largest country by area. It is second to China. The total population recorded on 2010 world census has reached to 1,210,193,422 equals to 17.31% of world’s population. The country’s motto: Truth Alone Triumphs. The official languages of India are Hindi and English. India is the most populous democracy in the world.

HongKong has brought at least 3% of the traffic and views to my Triond pages. The country is known for its expansive skyline and deep natural harbour. It is is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. HongKong’s population is 95 percent ethnic Chinese and 5 percent from other groups. The country had become a colony of the British Empire after the First Opium War in1839–1842. HongKong is one of the world’s leading international financial centers, HongKong has a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade, and the currency, HongKong dollar, is the eighth most traded currency in the world. Its official languages are English and Chinese.

Germany is the 8th country that brought at least 3% of traffic and views to my Triond pages. According to Wikipedia - Germany is a federal, parliamentary, representative democratic republic. The German political system operates under a framework laid out in the 1949 constitutional document known as the Grundgesetz (Basic Law). Germany has the world’s fourth largest economy by nominal GDP and the fifth largest by purchasing power parity. Germany is the second largest exporter and third largest importer of goods. Germany was a founding member of the European Community in 1957, which became the EU in 1993.

Theory of Accounts: Book Review

In Philippines the CPA Licensure Examinations is served during the months of May and October. And I also understand that Bachelor of Science In Commerce Accountancy in Philippines is taken up in five years not anymore in four years. This book Theory of Accounts has great potential to help graduating students of Accountancy for self-review.

This is a short review about the book entitled "Theory of Accounts Volume One" which was published and printed by GIC Enterprises & CO., INC. 2019 C.M. Recto, Manila, Philippines in January 2012 with International Serial Business Number (ISBN) 971-9919-16-2. The book was written by two writers namely:

  • Conrado T. Valix - a BSC and LLB. He is a Public Accountant and Lawyer. He is the President, Review Director and CPA Reviewer, CPA Review School of the Philippines (CPAR) and a Lifetime Member of Intergrated Bar of the Philippines.
  • Christian Aris M. Valix - a BSME and BSA. He is a Certified Public Accountant. He is an Ateneo Management Engineering Graduate, a Faculty Member - Ateneo and San Beda and a CPA Reviewer, (CPAR).
The Theory of Accounts was written in unique approach and style by this two great writers Conrado and Christian - who are both Certified Accountants. Their unique approach and style could attract readers to read the book.
What good about the book? This book serves as a reviewer in Theory of Accounts in the Philippines CPA Licensure Examinations. It is prepared in accordance with the syllabus for Theory of Accounts issued and approved by the Board of Accountancy. This reviewer is largely based on the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, Philippine Accounting Standards or PAS and Philippine Financial Standards or PFRS.
The layout and presentation of the book as found on the book contents started from multiple choice questions with corresponding detailed answers and the following standards of subjects covered on the book are numbered as the same as their counterpart in International Accounting Standards or IAS and International Financial Reporting Standards or IFRS namely:
  • Presentation of financial statements
  • Inventories
  • Accounting policies, changes in accounting estimates and errors
  • Events after reporting period
  • Construction contracts
  • Property, plant and equipment
  • Revenue
  • Government grants and government assistance
  • Borrowing costs
  • Related party disclosures
  • Investments in associates and joint ventures
  • Financial instruments - disclosure and presentation Interim financial reporting
  • Impairment of assets
  • Intangible assets
  • Financial instruments - recognition and measurement
  • Investment property
  • Agriculture
  • First time adoption of Philippine Financial Reporting Standards
  • Noncurrent assets held for sale and discontinued operations
  • Exploration and evaluation of mineral resources
  • Financial intruments - disclosures
  • Operating segments
  • Financial instruments
After reading the book, I would not hesitate to recommend that this book must be read not only for students who are taking up accountancy but also to people like bloggers, other writers, moms, dads, employees, businessmen, other professionals and even high school students who also need to learn the language of business. The book is full of detailed information and the language used is easy to understand.
For anyone who has the interest to read the book - contact the official distributor CONANAN EDUCATIONAL SUPPLY, located at 2019 Claro M. Recto, Manila, Philippines - telephone numbers: 735-55-82 and 735-55-86.
There are many ways to learn the language of business, its definitions and other accounting terms namely: by reading books and other accounting modules, by attending to some training and seminars about personal finance and other business opportunities. All can be done both offline and online.

Job is Only Temporary

You have to accept that Job is only temporary. In the Kingdom, the retirement age will start at 55 years old. If you reached this retirement age and your company decided to send you home – you cannot stop it. If you met an accident or got sick and it has stopped you from working – it could be a valid reason for your company to send you home.

When Saudization blasted many of foreign workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, many have started worrying. Some of them including myself have wrongfully interpreted it as a threat. But those were normal feelings and reactions that each and everyone has exhibited. However, it is better to stop harrowing instead; learn the lessons and the good tidings of Saudization.

Saudi graduates need jobs too. The unemployment rate for Saudis in the Kingdom is high especially for the young graduates. Every year the country has produced thousands of newly graduates. Yes some of them are already working on Saudi government offices around the Kingdom. Although still, the government could not accommodate all of these young energetic newly graduates from colleges and universities.

The unemployment situation in the Kingdom pushed these young energetic Saudi nationals to unite and started calling for a peaceful rally, protest and demonstration – asking the government to address their grievances and the dilemma of being unemployed. This is one of the many reasons why Saudization is introduced and prioritized in the Kingdom nowadays and we have to appreciate it.
